Dog Walking Days

Yesterday was my last day as a dog walker. This is a good thing because the job was literally driving me crazy. My first day (which was just a few weeks ago) went great! When Ashley was training me and "passing on the torch" of walking the dogs on her route, I felt like the job was pretty okay. But the next day when I was on my own, I realized Ashley must have been smoking crack-cocaine and had the luck of the Gods on her side because I never again had an easy, stress-free day.

For example, if it was supposed to rain, and I DRESSED for rain, there was never a drop- of course. If I didn't dress for rain, I would get soaked. It got to the point that if anyone ever asked me if it was supposed to rain, I would say, It depends on what I decide to wear! Let me get dressed and I'll let you know! But that, my friends, is just the tip of the ever-large dogwalking iceberg. I'll just share one little story with you.

Two weeks ago, I had Bailey added to my route. On my first day with her, I unlocked the front door to the apartment and heard this soft, continual beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep...I immediately realized it was an alarm, or the warning beep to tell you that a very loud obnoxious alarm is about to go off. That's funny, I thought, because my boss sure didn't mention that there was an alarm here. Even funnier is that I don't know the code to turn it off. (forced laugh)

So, as I was calmly taking 15-week-old Bailey out of her little crate, I was deafened by the most atrocious sound ever known to man. It's all quite funny now. My boss gave me an "Oooops! Sorry about that!" Yeah, OOOOOPS!!! The cops came, oh yes! It was quite a lovely way to start my day. And most days had episodes like that, where I would think, I am WAY too old to put up with this. Way too old.

But there were a few moments that were indeed precious, and which make me miss my dogs today. Well, some of my dogs. And now with my first day off, I have an exciting morning ahead of me to do laundry at the ghetto laundro-mat!! Ah, the perks of living in the big city!
