Playing God
So I'm going to see Jimmy Eat World this Friday night (one of my favorite bands) and I've had 2 extra tickets I've needed to sell for the past month. I asked all my friends, no takers. Cory asked around at work, no takers. I didn't want to put them on ebay because my goal was not to make a profit or put them into the hands of a broker, I just wanted them to go to someone who REALLY wanted to see the show, but didn't get tickets (they sold out fast.)
My solution? I put them on Craig's List which for those of you who don't know is like a jack-of-all-trades website. They have one for most big cities (just typed tities) and one category is TICKETS. So I advertised them and said I want these to go to a real fan.
I got one email from "Emilio" that said, "You still have the tix? I would like them ASAP." Didn't really sound like a fan but more of a broker. So I waited, hoping more people would email me. And boy did they ever.
I got so many emails I all of a sudden couldn't decide who to sell them too!! A lot of people still just asked something boring like, "Are the tickets still available?" Those people I put to the side. Then I got some non excited fans, and I got one guy saying he'd like to surprise a friend coming into town- but mentioned nothing about being big fans. I just wasn't convinced. All of a sudden nobody seemed worthy enough to get my extra tickets. I had probably 30 emails total and I just was TORN UP about what to do.
I read through all the "Possibilities" again and decided to go with "Meghan." She seemed really nice and her email stated that she was a big fan and had REALLY (yes she used all caps) wanted to go to the show but thought she was going to be out of town with her family but now she is not and she would LOVE the tickets.
So I emailed her about an hour ago. Told her I was sorry I took so long to get back to her but a million people emailed me wanting those tickets and I just couldn't decide. But that she seemed the most excited and the biggest fan so I picked her. She was so stoked. So stoked! It was great. My little stint as God turned out quite well...
