Back to planet earth

Well, I definitely had an allergic reaction to something that was in that antibiotic. I'm guessing it was the crack-cocaine. The "I feel like I'm drunk on the planet Mars" side effects lasted for about 24 hours (!!!!???), which needless to say, made for a pretty interesting day at work.

Man, these kids! They are going to be the death of me. Thank God it's Friday.

Happy Easter everybody!

Impe-freakin-tigo

Ahhh, to be a preschool teacher. As I've mentioned before, the nasty little sick germs the kids bring to school usually hit a few teachers (myself always included) before they make their way out the door. And the latest bug I've been so lucky to get? The wonderful impetigo- which in case you haven't heard about it before...

Pronunciation: "im-p&-'tE-(")gO, -'tI-Function: nounEtymology: Latin, from impetere to attack -- more at IMPETUS: an acute contagious staphylococcal or streptococcal skin disease characterized by vesicles, pustules, and yellowish crusts

Just what I hoped the Easter bunny would bring me.

A little boy at our school had it and SOMEHOW, I got it. Not quite sure how because he's one kid that only comes a few times a week and doesn't ever hang on me or want me to pick him up, so I have very little skin on skin contact with him. But with how my luck is when it comes to catching bugs at school, he probably just waved at me and I caught it.

Anyway, the definition kindly left out: it itches nonstop, is very contagious and spreads faster than wildfire if you are not careful. Luckily I only have one bump on my upper chest, versus the boy at school who had many many bumps all over his face.

I went to the doctor yesterday to get it looked at and diagnosed and he prescribed some antibiotics. I took one last night and felt like my body had moved to the planet Mars! I was dizzy, fatigued, shaky, sick to my stomach...I drove to pick up cory a few hours later and felt like I had downed a bottle of wine and thought I might even have to pull over! Then, to top it all off, I woke up at 3am, all shaky, with my mind racing and couldn't get back to sleep for about 2 1/2 hours. Needless to say it's been HORRIBLE and there's no WAY I'm going to subject myself to these side effects for 6 more days. No. Way.

Luckily, my doctor also gave me a prescription for a topical (lotion) antibiotic which has no side effects, but I didn't get it yesterday because they didn't have it in stock, hence why I went with the mars pills. So, in a few hours I will go back to the pharmacy and have them order the lotion.

What a week.

P.S. No word on the commercial yet.
P.S.S. Anyone a fan of HBO's Deadwood? I just watched almost all of the first season and I am HOOKED! Crazy hooked!

musings...

It is Sunday again and again I am not in church and again I am contemplating what should I eat for breakfast or should I eat anything at all...Again I am upset that Jimmy Eat World is not coming to Chicago on their latest tour and I have no idea when they'll be back, but I do know that I need to see them in concert soon...

Again I am tired of the cold weather.

I am ready for something new.

Captain's Log

Star Date: March 18, 2005

I am off to audition for two commercials. I am VERY excited. Maybe I'll book one! Or both! Maybe I'll make a million dollars and become a big star and have to buy 3 homes! Maybe...I'm getting ahead of myself. Yes, I think that is the case.

Fiddle-dee-dooo-dah-dee-tra-la-la-laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! (That's a belated St. Patrick's jig for everyone.)

Happy Friday

I've been posting all of my travel stories, does anyone have any good ones they'd like to share? Any gas station attendants from your past recently come back into your life?

Pit Stop

San Isidros, Lima is the place my grandfather lives and where my dad grew up until he ventured off to the States for college. On one of our days here during our visit, we had to stop and get some gas at a little gas station, complete with a Burger King, and yes we had to try some burgers. Well, as we were all waiting in our "shuttle bus," one of the gas attendants approaches my dad who is standing outside stretching and says to him, "Senor Boza?"

Turns out, and get ready for this, the attendant, named Angel, had been working at that gas station for over 40 years and he RECOGNIZED MY DAD from when my dad used to live there. How crazy is that? My dad was in utter shock, and of course ended up remembering Angel as well. But this guy hadn't seen my dad in, ohhhhhhhhhhh, since before I was born. And then one day out of the blue, out steps my dad from a shuttle bus with a crew of his American looking family on board and in 5 seconds, Angel knew. I still can't believe it.
